Reinhard Kreissl & Roger von Laufenberg: Publication in Neue Kriminalpolitik on criminal investigations in the digital age

Under the title of Deciphering crime - fact, fiction and phantasma of criminal forensics in the digital age (translation of the german heading: Das Verbrechen lesen - Fakt, Fiktion und Phantasma kriminalistischer Spurensuche im digitalen Zeitalter) Reinhard Kreissl and Roger von Laufenberg discuss emerging changes in the way criminal investigations are conducted in the digital age. The abstract reads as follows:

Criminal forensics has long been considered as a form of local hermeneutic practice. Detectives worked their way from evidence at the crime scene to the offender and his main actions. The main character in this scenario, immortalized in classic crime novels, was the smart, cool, male detective. New digital technologies have led to significant changes in crime and criminal forensics alike. Some of these challenges will be discussed and side effects of digitalization highlighted.
