IMPROVE

IMPROVING ACCESS TO SERVICES FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE BY ACCELERATING CHANGE IN FRONTLINE RESPONDER ORGANISATIONS

Summary

IMPROVE project develops several tools to increase reporting and detection of domestic violence by empowering the victims to understand their rights for services and justice, and by supporting Police Authorities, Civil Society Organizations and other frontline responder organisations to enhance their competencies to utilize innovative solutions that enable and accelerate policy implementation. IMPROVE will develop Conversational (multilingual) AI Chatbot (AINO) that provides the victims immediate advice and risk assessment as well as guidance towards the available service provisions. The performance of AI Chatbot will be consistently improved by machine learning using inputs from the victim-survivors.

The project aims to support the planning and decision making of policy makers and managers to fully utilize innovative solutions in the priority areas in order to accelerate policy implementation and enhance positive operational outcomes through effective application of tools, procedures and measures to combat domestic violence. IMPROVE plans to do so by addressing frontline responders training needs and designing training materials covering sector specific and cross-sector contents supported by innovative teaching and learning methods. IMPROVE will construct and deliver targeted awareness campaigns for the victims, their social environs, and community representatives as well as frontline responder practitioners, managers, policy makers and academic experts. Innovations produced by IMPROVE are based on applied research that constructs a pioneering conceptual approach that is able to address diverse identities of the victims, the under-served, vulnerable and marginalized individuals and multiple forms and situations of domestic violence

Activities

In order to achieve the goals listed in the summary, IMPROVE has 5 work packages (WPs) housing its various activities.

  1. WP1 “Identifying victims’ needs and potential for improvement in frontline responders’ organisations“ foresees desk research activities, interviews and focus groups to asses the gaps within existing frontline responses, as well as victim-survivors perception of their services.

  2. WP2 “Conversational AI tool prototype to support DV experiencers“ will dedicate work to the development of a bespoke AI Chatbot using lessons learned from WP1 to better provide victim survivors with aid.

  3. WP3 “Building capacity in FLR organizations through training“ is poised to build IMPROVE activities and craft dedicated curricula for frontline responder that will be made available on the IMPROVE training platform.

  4. WP4 “Enabling, improving and accelerating DV policy implementation“ will address the policy dimension. The WP will not only identify policy solutions, but will support policy makers in identifying change accelerators and frontline responder-managers with a decision support toolkit to facilitate efficient implementation of changes.

  5. Lastly, WP5 “Dissemination, engagement and exploitation“ will help ensure that IMPROVE results and findings are disseminated to the public. This will be done by using social media platforms, as well as a dedicated website.
