PROTAX: International Conference No.2

Bringing Stakeholders Together

Addressing Human and Legal Factors in Tax Compliance and Enforcement in the EU and Beyond

Description

The second International PROTAX Conference on “New Methods to Prevent, Investigate and Mitigate Corruption and Tax Crimes in the EU” will be held at De Vere Tortworth Court, Bristol, UK on 7-8 July 2021. This Conference marks the successful completion of PROTAX, an EU-funded H2020 research project (2018-2021), which has already evidenced considerable impact on enhancing counter-tax crime measures across the EU and become a pivotal reference point for researchers in criminal law measures regarding tax offences.

This unique hybrid (in person/off line for those who can travel and online for those who cannot) event brings together hundreds of key stakeholders to share and debate the novel findings by PROTAX and other sister projects and propose feasible recommendations to foster tax compliance and effective enforcement. The PROTAX Conference will include speakers on the following topics:

·       Tax system design and crime prevention in the EU and beyond;

·       International and EU responses to serious and organised tax crimes;

·       Challenges in cross-border investigations for national gatekeepers:

·       Illicit financial flows and tax evasion;

·       Institutional and fiscal corruption;

·       Human factors in tax compliance and enforcement;

·       The role of professionals in tax compliance;

·       Cutting-edge strategies and toolkits to prevent and counter tax crimes in the EU.

The panels will be composed of leading experts in preventing and countering tax crimes, good tax governance and integrity in businesses from the EU Member States and beyond. Contributions will be made by leading academics, representatives from international institutions (e.g. EU, OECD, EUROPOL, EPPO, EURFISC) policymakers, tax crime investigators, public prosecutors, judges, tax and customs officers, asset recovery specialists, financial intelligence unit officers, anti-money laundering and anti-corruption experts, tax advisors, accountants and lawyers.

We are confident that the conference will offer an excellent forum for critical discussion for a wide spectrum of stakeholders whereby a meaningful knowledge exchange can take place.

We look forward to seeing you at this exciting event!
