INSPEC Virtual Drug Trafficking – A New Challenge in Combating Organized Crime
Drug dealing via internet is a trend that has only just begun to materialise. It occurs anonymously at online marketplaces and creates novel challenges to law enforcement agencies. This study empirically investigates the degree to which this shift from physical to virtual drug trafficking has occurred and to what extent the actors and structures of organised crime operating on virtual drug-markets are the same as on real / offline ones. The project results in the development of a novel tool that allows for a systematic analysis of virtual drug trafficking and the marketplaces in the “Dark Net”.
