Victoria Kontrus and Roger von Laufenberg attended the 5th edition of the International Data Power Conference themed “Situating Data Practices Beyond Data Universalism” in Graz (04.09.-06.09.2024). They presented a paper titled “Data simulation as centers of data power” based on findings from the Algocare project. The paper reveals how data practices and different forms of power co-constitute each other, and discusses how a shift towards synthetic training data for AI can entail epistemic injustice.
